Base salary: £66,553pa to £83,191pa depending on skills and experience. In
addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top base

The Principal Enterprise Architect is responsible for developing enterprise-wide
architecture and processes to embed the strategic application of change across
HS2. The role supports the establishment and management of HS2’s Enterprise
Architecture practice and leads the development, design, implementation, and
governance of the organisation’s Enterprise Architecture to ensure technology’s
alignment with business objectives.
About the Role
* Develops and implements enterprise-wide architecture, policies, patterns,
processes and guardrails to embed the strategic application of change across
HS2, ensuring compliance between business strategies, enterprise
transformation activities and technology directions.
* Leads the definition of IT Portfolio service offerings to support IT in
delivering capabilities aligned to business objectives.
* Leads definition and continued maturity of agile Enterprise Architecture
frameworks.
* Lead the provision of an architectural governance process to ensure that new
or changed services have an appropriate level of quality, design principle
alignment, and have defensible decision making.
* Supports the IT SLT to develop the Information & Technology strategy and the
associated sub-strategies, artefacts and plans and then ensures alignment to
the agreed technology strategy and roadmap.
* Leads the capture and prioritisation of market and environmental trends,
business strategies and objectives, in order to ensure alignment with HS2’s
technology strategy and roadmap.
* Lead the rationalisation and optimisation of the IT application portfolio
across HS2 to drive operational and financial efficiency.
* Supports establishment and management of the Enterprise Architecture practice
and capabilities across HS2, leading knowledge sharing and skills development
efforts and driving consistency across the technical architecture
capabilities.
* Defines assurance guardrails and architectural platform to guide the
implementation and management of technology capabilities and systems across
HS2.
* Leads the assurance that system and solution design across HS2 adhere to
architecture guardrails, standards and roadmap.
* Leads the translation of business drivers, goals and constraints into
technology imperatives.
* Actively promotes and embeds Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all
work, and supports and complies with all organisational initiatives, policies
and procedures on EDI.
About You
Skills:
* Enterprise and business architecture. Ability to support and advise on the
development of a future state architecture aligned to strategy and lead on
the translation of business drivers, goals and constraints into business
objectives
* Governance and assurance. Ability to evolve and define governance and take
responsibility for working with other stakeholders across HS2’s wider
governance structure. Assure standards, guardrails and principles to
effectively govern delivery
* Problem definition and shaping. Ability to define strategies and policies,
providing guidance to others on working within a strategic context. Evaluate
current strategies to ensure business needs are being met and exceeded where
possible
* Strategic design and business change. Ability to demonstrate a good
understanding of business issues, events and activities, and their short to
long term impact. Support defining principles, patterns, standards, policies,
roadmaps and vision statements. Develop, maintain or update strategy in
response to feedback and findings
* Agile working. Ability to coach and lead teams in Agile and Lean practices.
* Stakeholder communication. Ability to communicate with stakeholders at all
levels and manage stakeholder expectations
* Emerging technology monitoring. Ability to identify and assess new and
emerging technologies, products, services, methods and techniques
Knowledge:
* Knowledge of agile methods and their implications for Enterprise Architecture
* Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, methodologies, and best
practices, such as TOGAF or Zachman Framework
* Knowledge of architecture principles, patterns, and their application within
an organisation
* Knowledge of emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to enterprise
architecture, including but not limited to cloud computing, artificial
intelligence, big data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and other
disruptive technologies
* Knowledge of different delivery models including Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid
methodologies
* Knowledge of the industry, business model, processes, and functional areas
Type of Experience:
* Experience of leading the design and implementation of IT services and
Architectural Building Blocks
* Experience of authoring high level designs for major solutions, managing
design requirements and maintaining an audit trial for a design control
process.
* Experience of defining complex technical models and communicating technical
models clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
* Experience of successfully applying Enterprise Architecture methods and
approaches to complex scenarios.
* Experience of using Enterprise Architecture tooling, integration or notation.
* Experience across full project lifecycle, from initiation to decommissioning.
* Experience working in a multi-vendor environment.
